Corey
This commission comprises two stories both related to family, the sea, and sustainability.
The first is about Corey Wheeler Forrest (modeling the coveralls) of Point Trap Co, in Little Compton Ri. Corey is 3rd generation fishermom, who practices sustainable fishing along with her family and crew. Its laborious work and much of it is done by hand: setting and hauling the nets, sorting fish, tying knots, etc. These daily chores are performed methodically and with precision, yet each day brings a new experience.
The second story is also centered around family and the sea. The original owner of the coveralls is a former Chief Mate on a merchant ship. Years later as a retired Captain, he passed down his much-coveted coveralls to his son, who remembers greeting his father at the docks (photo). I mended a few seams and embroidered a paint-stained area that reflects the father’s hand-print from decades ago. The coveralls are now a fashion statement for his daughter-in-law but carry a family legacy and memories from a career of hard work on Galveston Bay, TX among other shores.
