Mending/Darning Knits–Needham
Learn about the practice of mending, its history, and how to repair your knit garments using a mini loom or freehand with a darning mushroom. Bring a sweater or other knit garment in need of repair–moth holes, rips, and worn out elbows are all welcome! Tools will be supplied, including: needle, snips, thread/yarn, and a mini darning loom. Individual guidance will be given as you practice and then begin to mend your personal item. (NOTE: There is a $5 cancellation fee to cover SquareUp charges.)

Visible Mending on Denim–Needham, MA
The focus of this workshop is visible mending on denim. We will practice hand-stitching techniques based on traditional Japanese sashiko and discuss its recent revival in haute couture. Bring a denim garment in need of repair. Participants will receive guidance as they stitch a new surface design, adding both utility and unique style to their piece. Supplies will be provided including Sashiko needles, cotton thread, and snips. Reception and conversation to follow.

Visible Mending on Wovens
This workshop will explore freestyle hand stitching for textile repair and mending. We will discuss the history of mending and its recent revival in the context of sustainability. Rather than discard a worn or damaged garment, participants will enhance its beauty by creating a new surface design. Please bring a garment or household item made of woven fabric, ie: canvas, flannel, denim, shirting, etc. Participants will receive individual guidance on their personal item. Supplies will be provided including needles, cotton thread, and snips. Reception and conversation to follow.
